I noticed your banner above the door on my way to the festival the other day. Told loads of people as I thought that the more people that knew the better and not everyone visits this website.

All throughout Oct we are having a cask ale festival at the sefton arms in st helens. As well as our regular Theakstons and old speckled hen we will also be having weekly guest ales , first week is Brains IPA . We are also doing a beer tapas , you get 3 third of a pint glasses so you can try all 3 beers for 1 price.

Well done for listening to the customers. Credit where it's due. It tastes so much better in glass, so much that people won't even bother if you use plastic. It is like drinking out of a toothbrush beaker.(not that I do that often)

Some interesting comments. We have Theakstons as our session cask bitter, on offer all day every day for £1.65 , as we sell almost an 18 gallon every 2 days it is always a great pint. We do use plastic glasses on a friday and saturday but now it is after 11pm . It is not a police enforcement, it was a decision made by the manager after 1 accidental glassing incident 2 years ago (a girl had tried to throw a drink in another girls face on the dancefloor and the glass had hit the girl) , if we had another incident there was a possibility that our licence could have been reviewed and then we would have had to use plastic at all times. We have found this to be a lot safer for our customers with very little complaints. The plastic we use are very expensive polycarbonate. If any member of CAMRA wishes to have a pint in a normal glass after 11pm on Fri or Sat ask for Matty the Manager who will sort this out for you. Hope this clarifies the situation. Matthew Williams , General Manager, Sefton Arms.

Popped into The Sefton on Saturday. Quite a nice and very cheap pint of Theakstons but spoiled a bit by the use of plastic glasses
