shipinnThis year's Pub of the Year is a traditional pub which boasts a cracking menu of Modern British cuisine.

Here you can catch all the big live sporting fixtures whilst sipping back on a Pint of Real Ale, pulled straight from the Cask. Has it's own labeled 'Ship to Shore' George Wright beers and normally at least three other guest beers from the SIBA list.

Truly excellent for ale ! This pub serves an ever-changing and well-kept selection of real ales in a comfortable, clean environment not frequented by yobs. A welcome change for Rainhill.

If booking for an Xmas celebratory meal, make sure you specifically book Xmas food; if you don't book the food beforehand, they won't serve you any Xmas food and you'll have to refer to the normal menu (I had to have sausage and mash in mid-December !).

Only other downside is outside of the pub's control or remit; that being the lack of buses to get there from Rainhill village centre, making it difficult to get there. Still, well worth the effort when you do.

I visited The restaurant with my husband and two other family members 30/05/10. The carvery was disappointing. There were only two meats to choose from, beef & turkey both down to the last two inches of meat disappearing to a thin wedge and the vegetables where overcooked. It was about 2:30pm and only scraps left. The only thing worth eating was the cranberry sauce, the rest of the food was tasteless. It would have been nicer also, if the staff were not so surly and maybe smiled once in a while.

An excellent pub. Serves food as well as ale but works hard for the local community. Always a George Wright and Weetwood ale on plus 2 more from microbreweries (normally local as well)from the SIBA which are kept in very good order
